With its tree-lined boulevards, Bucharest of often described as the Paris of the East although much of the city was made over with grim Soviet-era apartment blocks during the 1980s. Bucharest's main attractions include the historic old town and the Palace of the People, which is the World's second largest building. It is perhaps the cheapest big European city so it's a good place to visit if you're budget is tight.
